What Does a Scrum Master Do?

A Scrum Master is a facilitator and servant-leader for a Scrum Team, responsible for promoting and supporting Scrum practices and principles within the team and organization. The main duties of a Scrum Master include coaching the team on Agile/Scrum best practices, facilitating sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint demos and retrospectives, and removing impediments to progress.

PhoenixSoftDevs is looking for an experienced, passionate and dedicated Scrum Master to join our team of industry professionals. We are looking for an individual with strong interpersonal, communication and management skills to support our software development projects and help us streamline our development workflow.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Guide and coach the team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices
  • Showcase Agile values, principles, and practices in day-to-day situations
  • Initiate and facilitate planning, stand-ups, demos, and retrospectives
  • Facilitate discussions and conflict resolution
  • Guide and coach teams on how to incorporate effective decision-making tools and techniques
  • Track and remove impediments, blockers and dependencies
  • Work with product owners to plan sprints and releases
  • Monitor and report on metrics
  • Facilitate innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or similar role
  • Strong understanding of agile principles, methodologies and frameworks
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders
  • Ability to manage risks and uncertainties
  • Ability to provide objective feedback and promote quality assurance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field

Training and Education:

This position requires an understanding of the Agile and Scrum frameworks. Thus, experience and knowledge in either one or both is preferred. Previous work experience with software development teams is a plus.

What a typical day looks like for a scrum master

A scrum master is responsible for facilitating a successful project – they are the glue that binds the team together and ensures that it operates most effectively. On a day-to-day basis, a scrum master will help to plan the sprints and ensure that their team adheres to their scrum methodology. They will also mentor their team members, ensure transparency among the team and stakeholders, ensure that their team sticks to the sprint goals, and will generally remove any roadblocks that their team may be facing. In addition, they will conduct regular sprint retrospectives, track progress, and help create a collaborative, motivating environment for their team.
