In general, this position must be able to make independent decisions based on assessing the situation. Duties may include the preparation and recovery of surgical instruments and equipment needed for the surgery. Other tasks include the setup of supplies that might be needed during the surgery, such as oxygen tanks and monitors. Surgical technologists are also responsible for administering anesthesia to patients before surgery. Other duties may include keeping detailed records of surgeries and patient care treatments and assisting doctors/surgeons as necessary throughout procedures.
