They then make recommendations on matters concerning the validity of existing laws, rules or regulations and suggest amendments. Job duties of a legal officer are defined broadly, but may include the following: provide advice to agency management on a variety of labor and employment issues; conduct investigations, inspections, audits and other activities associated with enforcement of the provisions of Federal labor law; provide litigation support in proceedings before administrative agencies; advise agency management on labor and employee relations issues such as collective bargaining; represent management and agency interests in grievance procedures by participating in formal negotiations and hearings
